The simple solution: Stop using single-use disposable plastic!
But as humans born into this convenient "throw-away" culture, we find it very difficult to change our habits and behaviors. Its clear now that we must act as individuals to make changes, while educating others through our actions. Choose Re-Usables! BYOB: Bring Your Own Bag, Bottle (metal utensils, mugs, etc.) Refuse: They always try to give you plastic stuff; say, "No, thanks." Recycle: Better than not recycling, but not enough to just recycle. The math shows that even though rates of recycling may be increasing, it is nowhere near keeping pace with the global production of new plastic. Therefore, the percentage of what is being recycled is actually decreasing over time. So keep recycling, but do the other R's too! Reduce: If you must use disposable plastics, use less! Reclaim: Companies must do the right thing and become more responsible with the plastic they create. |
